Trust Doctor F2/CT Equivalent in General Surgery

We are offering 4x Trust F2/CT grade posts in General Surgery for 1 year from August 2025 to August 2026.
The appointees will participate in a 1:10 on call rota. The on call covers emergency General Surgery and Urology patients and shifts include long days (both weekdays and weekends) 08:00-21:00, night shifts (20:00-09:00), and a short day on Saturday to assist with discharges (08:00-13:00). The on call is led by a Consultant of the week, with middle grade and FY1.
Standard days (08:00-17:00) are ward based on a rota with FY1/2 to provide ongoing care to General Surgery inpatients. All grades of resident doctor are encouraged to attend theatre or clinic whenever workload allows.
The appointee with be supported by a named Assigned Education Supervisor (AES) to develop their career pathway, with a study leave allowance and support for exams and interviews. There is weekly departmental education meeting alternating between teaching/SIM and mortality and morbidity.
Main duties of the job
The post holder accepts that they will also perform duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the appropriate consultant, in consultation, where practicable, with their senior and junior colleagues.
Maintain high standard of clinical work. Ensure compliance with clinical governance. There are local policies for grievance/disciplinary procedures, travel expenses and subsistenccking and administration.
Main Conditions of Service
The post holder should ensure confidentiality at all times. Employees of the Trust must not without prior permission disclose any information regarding patients or staff obtained during the course of employment, except to authorised bodies or individuals acting in an official capacity. Failure to adhere to this instruction will be regarded as serious misconduct and may lead to disciplinary action. The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) may render an individual liable for prosecution in the event of unauthorised disclosure of information.
The Trust is responsible for ensuring that the service provided for patients in its care meets the highest standards. Equally it is responsible for ensuring that staff do not abuse their official position for personal gain or to benefit their family and friends. Staff members are not allowed to further their private interests in the course of their NHS duties. The appointee is expected to compile an annual portfolio with evidence of continuing professional development.

Person Specification
Experience/ Qualifications
* Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice
* Advanced Life Support Certificate from the Resuscitation Council UK or equivalent
* Higher Degree
Clinical Skills and Experience
* Experience in General Surgery and relevant sub-specialities
Knowledge
* Breadth of experience in and outside specialty
Organisation and Planning
* Experience and ability to work in multi-professional teams
* Understanding of: NHS / Clinical governance / Resource constraints
