Role Purpose
The purpose of the Accountant (A001) role is to lead the formation and delivery of our internal accountancy function and expand our external accounting services to clients, particularly SMEs and CIS-related businesses. This role addresses a critical operational gap as our organisation scales rapidly, requiring enhanced delivery consistency, internal financial capabilities, and client-facing excellence.
This role will bring technical depth, regulatory knowledge, and leadership to manage complex accountancy processes end-to-end. Additionally, the Accountant will support the automation of services, collaborate with Sales and Marketing to grow our accountancy offerings, and ensure readiness for evolving legislation such as Making Tax Digital and the April 2026 HMRC reforms.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and manage the Accounting Services Team.
* Prepare and review year-end financial statements for both in-house and external clients.
* Manage CIS (Construction Industry Scheme) accounting and compliance.
* Oversee submissions to HMRC and Companies House, ensuring full compliance.
* Set up efficient workflows, select and implement suitable accounting software and automation tools.
* Collaborate with the Sales and Marketing team to define and position accountancy products for commercial success.
* Collaborate with the Development team to create automation processes in line with legislative changes (e.g., Making Tax Digital, April 2026 tax reforms).
* Train and supervise junior staff members, fostering a high-performance culture.
* Maintain strong client relationships and act as the main point of contact for accounting-related services.
Requirements
Required Skills & Experience
* Practising ACCA'' or ''Partial- practising ACCA
* Minimum 4 years’ experience in an accountancy practice, especially with SME and CIS clients.
* Strong knowledge of UK accounting standards, tax legislation, and compliance obligations.
* Experience in preparing and filing accounts with HMRC and Companies House.
* Proficient in Xero, QuickBooks, and Microsoft Excel.
* Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
* Highly organised, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities.
* Experience implementing accounting processes and managing service delivery.
* Understanding of upcoming legislative changes impacting SMEs and the payroll/umbrella sector (e.g., April 2026 reforms, Making Tax Digital).
