Deputy Head of Clinical Services

A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for an individual with a passion for community services to join us as a Deputy Head of Clinical Services. With operational responsibility for a defined portfolio of services, we are looking for someone who has strong communication skills, can manage their time and priorities independently, and demonstrates a sound background in service development and clinical services management.
Main duties
* Provide senior leadership oversight to a defined portfolio of services
* Deliver leadership, support, supervision, appraisal and performance management to teams and team managers
* Contribute to trust-wide projects and lead on projects relevant to own service area
* Ensure provision of safe and effective services
* Work collaboratively with other leaders to support and influence the strategic development of services using an in-depth knowledge of the service
* Use data to support decision making
* Ensure services delivered within financial envelope and remain within budget
* Participate in the on‑call rota
Qualifications
* First level registered nurse or equivalent clinical qualification relevant to service area
* Specialist practitioner qualification or equivalent clinical qualification relevant to service area
* Evidence of continuing professional development
* Master’s degree in relevant field or equivalent postgraduate validated courses and experience
* ECDL or equivalent
Knowledge and expertise
* Expert clinical knowledge in the field of clinical services
* Knowledge of the implications of the national agenda for NHS provider services
* Understanding of clinical governance and healthcare standards
* Knowledge of relationship between commissioners, providers, local authority and third sector
* Knowledge of recent NHS policies and innovative practice in primary and secondary care services
Experience
* Considerable management experience underpinned by in-depth study and experiential learning
* Experience of working in a clinical setting at a senior level (e.g., team leader or above)
* Sound clinical knowledge and track record of performance within own discipline
* Evidence of leadership and change management
* Evidence of quality improvement and innovation
* Proven competency at clinical specialist level
* Experience in research and audit
