Our client is a leading MEP contractor delivering complex, high-value projects in the advanced manufacturing and life sciences sectors. They are seeking an MEP Quantity Surveyor to join its commercial team on a flagship biopharmaceutical project in Hull, Yorkshire.
The Quantity Surveyor will take ownership of subcontract procurement, contract administration, cost control, and reporting, playing a pivotal role in delivering commercial success on one of the regions most important industrial builds.
Working closely with the Regional Commercial Lead, the Quantity Surveyor will manage supply chain selection with a strong focus on identifying proven, high-performing local SMEs. The role requires an experienced professional with deep knowledge of JCT Design & Build contracts, a strong grasp of construction processes, and the ability to contribute to both the strategic and operational aspects of commercial delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain and update detailed project cost plans in alignment with project goals
Prepare monthly CVR reports, cost forecasts, and variance analysis
Provide cost guidance to support key decision-making throughout the project lifecycle
Support the development of subcontract packages and RFQs
Lead tender evaluations and cost analysis in collaboration with the project director
Drive contract award processes in line with budget, scope, and risk considerations
Manage and maintain the project risk register
Oversee the change control process, ensuring all variations are accurately recorded and costed
Implement robust record-keeping practices through site event logs and reporting systems
Advise project teams on the commercial implications of change
Administer JCT D&B 2016/2024 and other relevant forms of contract
Manage contractual notices, client payments, and dispute resolution processes
Provide strategic insight into contractual obligations and risk exposure
Assist in supply chain selection, prequalification, and tendering
Manage subcontract administration from tender through to final account
Conduct accurate measurement from engineering drawings, BIM models, and site verification
Administer payments, manage variations, and assess progress against milestones
Candidate Profile
Experience delivering complex MEP or industrial projects above £20m
Strong technical knowledge of mechanical systems and project change processes
Skilled in ERP cost systems (e.g. SAP, COINS, ORACLE) and proficient in Excel, CostX, Bluebeam, PowerBI
They are able to offer the role on a freelance / day rate basis
