We have an opportunity for a Senior Theatre Practitioner to join their team of staff in the Theatre department. This is a full- time role for 37.5 hours a week. The role holder will be required to cover a flexible shift pattern. Duties of this role include: Prepare and handle specialist instrumentation and equipment for ophthalmic, plastics, pain management and minor general surgery procedures, following manufacturers’ guidance and clinical protocols. Provide skilled scrub support to consultants, anticipating needs and maintaining high standards of aseptic practice throughout day case procedures. Take a senior role in preparing theatres, coordinating high‑turnover surgical lists and ensuring all equipment, staff and resources are in place. Support the Theatre Manager with team briefings, scheduling, stock control and ensuring safe patient flow through the theatre suite. Oversee the safe admission and discharge of patients, ensuring documentation, consent, observations and discharge criteria are completed accurately. Coordinate patient movement through the clinic, working closely with reception, pre‑assessment, theatre and recovery teams to maintain efficient flow. Supervise junior theatre practitioners and healthcare assistants, providing clinical guidance and oversight during shifts. Identify and escalate clinical or operational risks and participate in audits and incident reviews. Liaise closely with consultants, recovery staff and ward teams to ensure continuity of care and an excellent patient experience. Applicants should meet the following criteria: Registered Nurse (NMC) or Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC). Significant experience in the perioperative setting, ideally within day case surgery or one of our key specialties (ophthalmics, plastics, pain or minor general surgery). Comprehensive knowledge of a wide range of procedures suitable for local anaesthetic and minimally invasive pathways. Excellent leadership, communication and decision‑making skills. Strong understanding of clinical governance, infection control and safety practices in theatre. Previous experience in a senior or team‑lead role within theatres or day surgery.
