Applications are invited for a substantive consultant ophthalmologist post specialising in medical retina. The successful candidate will join an established, prestigious tertiary service and provide general and emergency ophthalmic services. This is a 10.0 PA (8.0 PA direct clinical care and 2.0 PA supporting professional activities) appointment. The post is based chiefly at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital site and partly at Aintree University Hospital site of St's Eye Unit, part of the Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (LUHFT).

Responsibilities
* Provide comprehensive general and emergency ophthalmic services.
* Deliver specialist care in medical retina, including management of patients with retinal disorders.
* Engage in supporting professional activities, such as audit, teaching, and research.
Essential Qualifications
* Medical degree
* FRCOphth (or equivalent)
* CST in ophthalmology
* Specialist registration with the GMC
* Fellowship training or equivalent postgraduate training/experience in the management of patients with medical disorders of the retina
* Publication and/or presentation of original clinical and/or laboratory research in ophthalmology and retinal diseases
* Able to work with team members of all grades within the NHS
* Organisational skills
* Clinical audit experience
* Experience in formal and informal teaching and training
Desirable Qualifications
* Surgical or non‑surgical skills not currently offered by the department
* Evidence of leadership skills
* Post‑graduate research degree (MD, PhD, MSc)
* Research grant awards
* Willingness to work flexibly towards the strategic aims of the organisation
* Managerial experience including a central role in competence‑based role development for non‑medical staff and patient care pathway development
* Evidence of completion of a clinical audit cycle
* Qualification in teaching and/or training
