NSPCC Job Description Job title: Childrens Services Practitioner Level 3 (Social Worker) Location: Foyle - Exchange House Directorate : Services Directorate Team/Department : Local Services Regional/National Hub Context and background The NSPCCs purpose is to prevent child abuse and neglect of children across the UK and Channel Islands. The organisation has been fighting for childhood for 130 years and its 20212031 strategy is focused on achieving greater change for children and inspiring others to join the fight for childhood. Services help children who have been abused, protect children at risk and find the best ways to prevent abuse from happening. NSPCC works directly with children and families through national and regional hubs, supports adults and young people via the NSPCC Helpline and Childline, and works with schools through the Speak Out Stay Safe programme to help children keep themselves safe. Local services provide therapeutic support to help children move on from abuse, support parents and families, help professionals make the best decisions for children, and support communities to prevent abuse. Job purpose Provide direct services to children, families, carers or adults in an inter-agency context where activities are complex and require considerable responsibility and autonomous working. Key relationships internal Reporting to Team Manager Practitioners and support staff Consultant Social Workers Development and Implementation team in the Strategy and Knowledge Directorate NSPCC colleagues from other directorates Key relationships external Professionals from other agencies Key supporters Main duties and responsibilities Provide direct services (individual or group work) for children, families, carers and adults, maintaining professional practice standards in line with legislation, guidance and NSPCC standards. Hold case accountability for a number of cases, including complex ones, ensuring safeguarding practice and case recording meet NSPCC standards; provide professional advice to internal and external enquiries. Liaise and work positively with partner agencies and respectfully challenge where necessary to promote the best interests of children. Involve service users in planning, decision-making and evaluation and promote the participation of children and young people. Plan and deliver services, contribute to evaluation and ensure diversity issues are identified and addressed in line with equal opportunity practice. Develop and maintain professional relationships and work in partnership with other agencies, attending internal and external meetings as required. Prepare for and participate in supervision, team meetings, briefings and training events; contribute to development of learning materials and other resources. Take responsibility for developing and improving own professional knowledge and skills and contribute to policy development. Work with fundraising staff to promote the work of the team and organisation to supporters, fundraisers and volunteers. Support colleagues through co-working, mentoring or critical appraisal and supervise students and volunteers in line with policy. Undertake any other job-related duties as assigned and adapt to changes in work practices; business travel will be required. Responsibilities for all staff within the Services Directorate Commit to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and adults at risk. Comply with all relevant NSPCC safeguarding policies. Apply NSPCC Values and Behaviours to all aspects of work. Maintain awareness of own and others health and safety and comply with NSPCC health and safety procedures. Comply with NSPCC Diversity and Equality policies and work in a way that facilitates inclusion. Maintain and develop competence in the use of IT systems. Manage confidential and/or sensitive information in line with NSPCC policies and Data Protection and GDPR regulations. Person specification Recognised social work qualification and registration with the relevant social care council within the UK (applications may be considered from social work students who will be qualified and registered within three months of the closing date). Experience of direct prevention work with children and families and proven ability to identify risk and initiate child protection interventions, informed by good knowledge of best practice, research and legislation. Experience and proven ability to work in a child-centred way with understanding of childrens rights, participation, needs, best interests and safeguarding practice. Ability to plan appropriate direct work and evaluate effectiveness. Evidence of ability to develop and maintain professional relationships, including with other child protection agencies and supporters, and experience of effective multi-agency working. Experience and proven ability to champion equality, diversity and inclusive practice. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and the ability to present NSPCC to internal and external audiences.
