Location: Hydehurst Ln, Crawley RH10 9AS The Role: The Student Design Engineer will be at the core of many projects with stakeholders across the business functions from the Managing Director through to the factory floor. The student will be reporting to the Lead Design Engineer. Working Hours: 08:00 16:45 Mon – Thurs 08:00 – 13:00 Fri What you will be involved in Primary and secondary design research Concept Generation – running ideation sessions Concept Testing/Evaluation Usability Studies Prototyping Support Design Engineers in day-to-day project development tasks Problem solving Communication with internal departments, sub-contractors, suppliers and customers Responsibility to always adhere to the Company’s Health and Safety policy and operate and promote the development of quality standards and procedures taking ownership of tasks and to seek new improved TO DEVELOP YOUR SKILLS, YOU WILL BE ENCOURAGED TO Produce detailed 3D models and drawings to BS8888 using SolidWorks Generate high quality renders for marketing purposes - Keyshot Design, development, testing and validation of medical products Documenting design process to meet medical device regulations Materials Specifications • Support user presentations and focus groups Developing prototypes to a professional standard Ideal Requirements / skills We are looking for students currently enrolled on a design-based University Course who have a desire to develop their design skills in the Medical Device industry. The designer will have a good eye for design with excellent attention to detail, be self-motivated, proactive, and ambitious. The successful candidate will need to be confident in their approach and be able to communicate easily with team members. Qualifications: Essential: Enrolled in a design-based university course. Desirable: CAD literate (SolidWorks); background in Design/Technology, Graphical Communications, Art; skilled in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. Experience: Essential: Strong problem-solving skills; creative with excellent idea generation; excellent written, visual, and oral communication; good organizational skills; flexible and adaptable team player; self-motivated; ability to produce prototypes using CAD; hands-on experience with prototyping and model making; experience using 3D printers to model, implement, and test design concept. Desirable: Excellent analytical and reporting ability; ability to interpret market research data and scientific results; effective communicator with sketches and sketch models; experience in SolidWorks 3D CAD modelling. Knowledge: Essential: Good understanding of design and the design process. Desirable: Human Factors, Ergonomics, Usability Testing, Conducting Research. Personal Qualities: Essential: Energetic with a passion for design; eager to learn. Desirable: Desire to progress in the Medical Product Design industry.
