Job Title: Operations cleaning Manager

location: South and east Sussex

Role Overview

The Operations cleaning Manager will oversee a portfolio of strategic accounts, ensuring services meet contractual SLAs and KPIs. You will lead a team of Contract Managers, drive operational excellence, and build strong relationships with key clients. A core part of the role includes financial oversight, continuous improvement, and ensuring a safe, compliant working environment.

Main duties and responsibilities
• Can demonstrate knowledge and understanding of Health, Safety, Environment and Quality systems and the management of safe systems of work associated with the role and work environment.
• Able to represent Mitie effectively at both internal and external meetings
• Can demonstrate where they have lead by example in all role activities
• Excellent ability to problem solve and find robust solutions
• Able to command respect of team and customers by been confident and considered in actions and behaviours
• Good leadership and management skills
• Able to multitask and good with logistical solutions
• Excellent report presentation skills including competent use of word and powerpoint to a high standard.
• Strong financial acumen and basic to intermediate ability with excel.

Client & Contract Management

1. Manage key accounts and ensure service delivery meets contractual standards.

2. Build strong relationships with clients through regular meetings and reviews.

3. Support Contract Managers in understanding contractual obligations and boundaries.

4. Resolve escalated customer issues quickly with clear action plans.

Financial & Performance Management

5. Develop account plans to reduce overspend and increase profitability.

6. Conduct mid‑month financial reviews and track performance against budget and forecast.

7. Deliver annual P&L targets and ensure accurate, timely payroll.

8. Track all budget streams, manage spend, and ensure cost recovery for additional works.

9. Maintain accurate billing and cost‑control documentation.

Operational Excellence

10. Identify root causes of operational issues and implement long‑term solutions.

11. Ensure full compliance with monthly and quarterly Q‑Audits and manage improvement plans.

12. Monitor plant, equipment, maintenance schedules, and compliance requirements.

13. Support creation of monthly client reporting packs.

14. Drive innovation, continuous improvement, and adoption of new technologies.

People Leadership

15. Lead, motivate, and develop Contract Managers and their teams.

16. Oversee recruitment, induction, appraisals, development, and succession planning.

17. Manage escalated HR issues and ensure all staff complete mandatory training.

18. Promote a positive, professional working culture and share best practice.

Compliance & Safety

19. Ensure full compliance with Mitie policies, procedures, and Health & Safety standards.

20. Promote the LiveSafe programme and maintain a safe working environment.

21. Support social value initiatives, sustainability goals, and Plan Zero commitments.

Person Specification

22. Strong understanding of Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality systems.

23. Confident communicator able to represent Mitie at all levels.

24. Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate and influence teams.

25. Excellent problem‑solving ability and sound judgement.

26. Strong financial awareness and competent in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

27. Able to multitask, manage time effectively, and deliver high‑quality reporting.

Health and Safety responsibilities
• Follow Group and company policies and procedures at all times;
• Report any apparent deficiencies in systems of work or equipment provided that may result in failure of service delivery or risk to health and safety or the environment;
• Use all work equipment and personal PPE properly and in accordance with training received;
• Report any issues or training needs to your Line manager and /or via your divisional incident reporting system;
