The Vacancy

The Barnet Group is looking for a dedicated Community Engagement Officer to join our team. In this role, you’ll lead on the coordination and facilitation of resident engagement activities, working closely with residents, colleagues, and partners to ensure everyone’s voice is heard—especially those from underrepresented or marginalised groups.

You’ll report to the Head of Community Engagement and play a key role in delivering our Resident Involvement Policy, supporting Barnet Homes and Opendoor Homes residents to become active citizens. You’ll champion equality and equity, ensuring our engagement opportunities are accessible and meaningful for all.

Key Responsibilities:

* Lead the promotion and engagement of The Barnet Group’s customers and service users.
* Support the creation and development of Resident Associations and Community Groups, including providing training and capacity building.
* Coordinate a variety of community projects, such as Garden Clubs, Finest Flowers, Urban Gamez, Community Awards, and more.
* Provide support to carers, parents, ‘friends’ groups, and service users to enhance their involvement in our services.
* Build partnerships with internal teams, Barnet Council, and the Voluntary and Community
* Sector to deliver on community engagement and corporate objectives.
* Offer technical advice and support to colleagues, promoting best practice in customer and resident involvement.

What We’re Looking for:

* Ability to engage effectively with a wide range of audiences in a professional and courteous manner.
* Confident in resolving challenging situations with empathy and professionalism.
* Strong organisational skills, able to prioritise and manage a varied workload.
* A collaborative team player, willing to support colleagues at all levels.
* Skilled at building partnerships across departments and with external organisations.
* Knowledge of best practice in resident involvement and community engagement, ideally within a social housing context.

Additional Information

This role may require occasional evening meetings (weekdays) and occasional weekend work, for which time off in lieu will be provided.
