This post is based within the Mortuary department at Princess Royal University Hospital Orpington. The Mortuary is part of the King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust family. The department provides Mortuary services to the local borough councils (Bromley & Bexley) as well as the Trust. The Mortuary provides a body storage facility, a full post mortem service for HM Coroners and the Trust, a facility for relatives to visit, police identification facility and a 24 hour on call service.
Candidate MUST be able to attend site within an hour of the on call request, so that they can attend the mortuary for call out in a suitable time frame.
Main duties of the job
Managed by the Service Lead for Mortuary and Bereavement, you will be responsible for your own day to day tasks as well as support in the operations within the mortuary. Key responsibilities include:
1. To assist the Service Lead for Mortuary & Bereavement, Senior Anatomical Technologist, Trainee APTs and the Mortuary Assistant in the day to day running of the department as well as working with the Bereavement service team at PRUH
2. To undertake a broad range of routine and specialist activities ensuring the provision of a high quality and responsive service, meeting both regulatory and accreditation requirements specifically HTA
3. To participate in all aspects of the department including post mortem provision, on call, audits, quality management, SOPs, training, appraisals, health and safety, bereavement services, incident reporting and HTA
4. Assist in the management of trainees
5. Assist Services Lead and Senior APT in the continuous improvement of service delivery
6. Carry out administrative duties as well as Post Mortems services for Trust and Coroner Cases. This includes routine, high risk (up to Category 3) and Forensic Post Mortems.
7. Required to take part in the on call rota for both Trust and Coroners Service
