A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join BEAR Scotland’s team looking after the 1,422km of trunk roads and associated 1501 bridges and structures under the Scottish Trunk Roads Network Management Contract for the North West of Scotland. The North West Unit stretches from Thurso and Wick in the very north of the Highlands down to Campbeltown in Argyll and Bute and from Uig on Skye to Perth and Stirling in the central belt through some of Scotland’s most scenic countryside.
We are looking for a part-time or full-time Third-Party Development Manager to join our Asset Management Team.
The Third-Party Development Manager is the main point of contact with Transport Scotland for all matters relating to planning applications and developments that impact on the trunk roads.
The main responsibilities and activities of the role include:
1. Liaison with developers and Transport Scotland in relation to all planning applications and providing advice on the suitability of applications to Transport Scotland.
2. Assist with applications requiring transport appraisal / assessment, local development plans and any appeal process.
3. Provide coordinated integrated response from all relevant BEAR Scotland design teams for developments that require checks under the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges and where appropriate confirm that planning applications satisfy the Safe System Approach to Road Safety.
4. Assist Transport Scotland with preparation and administration of minutes or letters of agreement.
5. Ensure any monitoring and road safety audit of a third-party development is performed and reported in accordance with the requirements of Transport Scotland.
The successful candidate will have demonstrable appropriate experience gained while working on a trunk road maintenance contract or through undertaking a role of a similar nature for a road’s authority. Excellent IT and communications skills are essential along with a full driving license.
