NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.
The Directorate of Forensic Mental Health and Learning Disabilities has an exciting opportunity available for a suitably qualified RNMH/RNLD to join our nursing team.
We provide inpatient care in both a Medium and Low Secure setting as well as a Community service for patients. This post is for our Inpatient Service. The service provides a safe, secure and therapeutic environment for patients with a focus on risk assessment and reduction, rehabilitation and discharge planning for return to the community from our inpatient services.
In line with the philosophy of the Forensic Directorate the post holder will be responsible for the provision of specialist nursing care and treatment for individuals who have a mental disorder or learning disability and who have demonstrated serious offending behaviour or present significant risk to themselves and/or others.
The post holder, as part of the multi-disciplinary team, will provide care through a progressive patient focussed approach within a safe and secure environment which is underpinned by formal risk assessment and risk management that will maximise the individuals’ rehabilitation potential.
The Forensic Directorate provides Medium Secure, Low Secure and Community care for mentally disordered offenders. The service provides a safe, secure and therapeutic environment for the patient with a focus on rehabilitation and discharge planning, as an integral part of treatment, to enable a return to a community setting.
The post holder will also ensure that they maintain a therapeutic relationship with the patient and carers to ensure that care needs are identified and met within a participative framework that recognises the principles of equality, dignity, respect and also taking into account the individual spiritual needs of the patient.
