About The Role
Balfour Beatty are looking for a Senior Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) Advisor to join our Regional Scotland team at the Netherton Hub project in Peterhead. This is a maternity cover role for 12 months. This major infrastructure scheme includes HVDC and HVAC works, such as converter stations, a switching station, substations (400kV and 132kV), a new depot, and associated civil engineering works—earthworks, drainage, landscaping, access roads, and utilities. The Senior Health, Safety and Wellbeing Advisor will play a key role in ensuring the safe delivery of the project. They will provide efficient and effective advice, support and help to achieve our Zero Harm goals and uphold the highest safety standards for both Balfour Beatty and our client. Subsistence/Location allowance package available to candidates working away from home with this role.
What you'll be doing
* Implement Business Unit Zero Harm strategy through visible leadership to drive the delivery of the Zero Harm Action Plan.
* Provide project teams with expert HSW technical advice, guidance and support.
* Collaboratively engage with both internal & external customers and the supply chain to promote zero harm delivery.
* In conjunction with operational management complete a local and bespoke risk‑based Service Level Agreement with each project, reviewed quarterly to ensure compliance with HSW requirements.
* Undertake regular site inspections as per project risk matrix and produce formal reports using the Project Portal.
* Regularly check Health and Safety Risk Management to highlight risks and opportunities.
* Provide expert support to investigate accidents, incidents and near‑miss events in accordance with Balfour Beatty Group Standards and company requirements.
* Support work‑winning teams with quality HSW responses for bids, proposals and PQQs for future projects.
Who we're looking for
The Following Qualities/experience Are Essential
* Relevant H&S Diploma, NVQ or Degree (or equivalent level 6 qualification). May consider candidates currently working toward such a qualification with relevant on‑site experience and to be working toward Chartered Membership of IOSH.
* Strong understanding of the UK Health and Safety Regulatory Framework.
* Ability to influence and promote a positive HS&E culture by engaging and conversing at all levels.
* Ability to undertake project planning, project management and work to budgets.
* Competence in incident investigation.
* Ability to prepare formal written reports on HS&E topics.
* Broad experience of complex construction and civils projects (or an equivalent sector).
