Position Summary

An enthusiastic Band 5 Nurse is required to join the Norfolk Forensic Community Learning Disability team in an acting Band 6 role for a 9‑month fixed‑term maternity cover. The role offers a valuable career development opportunity within the adult forensic learning disability community service, allowing the successful candidate to develop leadership and management skills in a supportive and dynamic environment.


Responsibilities

* Train on a range of forensic learning disability topics.
* Provide consultancy and advice to community learning disability teams and inpatient units for patients presenting with forensic or forensic‑like behaviours and needs.
* Undertake specialist risk assessments such as HCR‑20v3 and ARMIDILO‑S (training provided).
* Deliver community‑based therapeutic interventions for patients with relevant needs.
* Conduct NHS access (gate‑keeping) assessments to determine the need for secure inpatient treatment.
* Maintain continuity of care for patients admitted to inpatient settings.
* Monitor progress and proactively participate in discharge planning to less restrictive settings.
* Manage active case‑management of service users identified as high‑risk forensic.
* Deliver evidence‑based practice to adults with learning disabilities requiring specialist forensic services.
* Support service users with learning disabilities in the community who have a forensic history and an active risk profile, or whose risks indicate a high likelihood of offending without specialist management.
* Collaborate with inpatient services to track progress of service users and contribute to discharge planning.
* Lead as a health professional, manage a caseload of people with learning disabilities and associated mental health needs, formulate detailed individualised assessments and robust risk‑management strategies.
* Practice evidence‑based offence‑specific nursing interventions and treatment for offenders with learning disabilities within the caseload.
* Provide comprehensive specialist risk assessments using structured professional judgement tools (HCR‑20v and ARMIDILO‑S), including formulation and risk‑management recommendations.
* Offer training to upskill local providers and community teams.
* Enhance capacity and capability of community providers, families, and others to work effectively with individuals with forensic histories by delivering specialist advice and consultation.
* Identify the need for further assessment as part of the review process and complete it in partnership with the person and their network.
* Develop links with mainstream services to support varied needs of the individual.
* Maintain and promote practice within the Mental Health Act 1983 (amended 2007), Mental Capacity Act 2005, and Hertfordshire Safeguarding Adults frameworks.
* Collaborate with the clinical team and Team Managers to ensure high standards of clinical practice and continuous improvement through practice governance and audit culture.
* Participate in the induction, training, and education of students and other staff as appropriate.


Qualifications

* Registered Nurse (RNLD) with current UK professional registration.
* ENB 997/998 (Mentoring & Preceptorship) or equivalent.
* Post‑graduate qualification relevant to working with adults with learning disabilities.
* Experience working with service users with forensic needs.
* Experience in learning disability assessment and treatment settings, community‑based learning disability teams or similar.
* Experience working with service users exhibiting challenging behaviour, epilepsy, and mental ill‑health.
* Knowledge of health‑related practice, policy and legal requirements (e.g. Valuing People, National Service Framework for Mental Health, Green Light Toolkit, Mental Health Act 1983, Mental Capacity Act 2005, Deprivation of Liberty Act 2005, Care Programme Approach, Practice Governance).
* Understanding of managing stressful situations and supporting staff and service users.
* Knowledge of change management.
* Teaching and presentation skills in clinical skills.


Desired Criteria

* Additional experience with forensic learning disability services.
