As Health and Safety Manager, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the safety culture across all phases of this landmark project. Your duties and responsibilities:
We are seeking an experienced Health and Safety Manager to lead and oversee all health, safety, and environmental (HSE) aspects of a major civil infrastructure project in West Cumbria. This role is critical to ensuring compliance with UK health and safety legislation, maintaining a safe working environment, and embedding a strong safety culture across all project phases.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, implement, and maintain the project’s Health and Safety Management Plan in line with CDM Regulations and ISO standards.
Ensure compliance with all relevant UK legislation, client requirements, and industry best practices.
Lead risk assessments, method statements, and hazard identification processes for complex civil works.
Monitor and audit site activities to ensure adherence to safety protocols.
Manage incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
Provide leadership and guidance to site teams, subcontractors, and stakeholders on HSE matters.
Deliver safety training and toolbox talks to promote a proactive safety culture.
Liaise with regulatory bodies, local authorities, and client representatives.
Prepare and present regular HSE performance reports to senior management.

You will have the following qualifications & experience:
NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent in Occupational Health and Safety.
Chartered Membership of IOSH (CMIOSH) preferred.
Minimum 10 years’ experience in health and safety management within large-scale civil engineering or infrastructure projects.
Strong knowledge of CDM Regulations, UK HSE legislation, and environmental compliance.
Proven track record in managing safety on projects exceeding £1 billion in value.
Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills. It’s great if you also have the following
Experience in nuclear or high-hazard environments.
ISO 45001 Lead Auditor qualification.
Familiarity with behavioural safety programsThe setting for the role
The role will be mainly office based with trips to site if required. A safety induction will be provided.
