We are pleased to offer the opportunity for enthusiastic Specialty Doctors to join our Anaesthetics Department and work alongside our current workforce.
The anaesthetic and critical care department serves a modern, recently expanded theatre and day surgery complex with adjacent ITU and HDU facilities. The department has an excellent reputation and enthusiasm for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and would welcome applicants with a teaching interest.

Responsibilities
* Provide 8.5 clinical activity (PA) per week of anaesthesia and critical care medicine, arranged as daytime and out‑of‑hours working.
* Provide 1.5 SPA (staff activity) per week, with additional SPA roles available depending on department needs.
* Attend elective surgical lists (full, half or day lists) with an extra hour for pre‑op assessment and post‑op care.
* Deliver acute pain service, obstetric anaesthesia and critical care coverage, including ICU and HDU.
* Participate in informal theatre based teaching and training of junior staff, medical students and other clinical staff groups.
* Take an active role in clinical governance, audit meetings (up to six per annum) and service development.
* Maintain continuing professional development (CPD) and revalidation.
Person Specification
Education and Teaching
* Demonstrates a commitment to the delivery of high‑quality teaching and training to resident colleagues and multidisciplinary team.
* Desirable: Qualification in teaching or instructor status relevant to anaesthesia (e.g. ATLS, APLS).
Experience
* 4 years full‑time post‑graduate working in a clinical area (or equivalent part‑time or flexible basis), at least two of which in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as a fixed‑term specialty trainee.
* A demonstrable amount of experience in anaesthesia commensurate with basic anaesthetic training.
* Eligibility to work in the UK.
Clinical Skills
* Acute care: up to date ALS, out‑of‑hours experience relevant to the job.
* Relevant specialty clinical knowledge: capacity to apply sound clinical knowledge relevant to the job.
* Clinical judgement: experience in making clinical decisions and managing risk.
* Practical skills: aptitude for the practical skills required in the job.
* Proven ability to work effectively in obstetrics and/or critical care.
Research and Audit
* Trained in research methodology.
* Committed to evidence‑based practice.
* Evidence of audit and the implementation of change following the audit.
Qualifications
* Full registration and a licence to practice with the GMC.
* MBBS Degree.
* Primary or Final FRCA or FFICM.
* Evidence of basic level anaesthetic competencies or evidence that they will have these at the time of taking up the post.
Management Skills
* Demonstrate effective team working skills.
* Time management and organisational ability.
* Proven knowledge of systems and process of NHS or equivalent.
* Sense of understanding and commitment to corporate responsibility.
