Overview
An 18 month secondment as a Non-Medical consultant in Multiple Sclerosis (MS). The MS team is part of the division of Manchester Centre for clinical Neurosciences, based at Salford Care Organisation, covering the Greater Manchester region. This is a collaborative working project (CWP) with Novartis Pharmaceuticals to improve capacity within the MS service in Greater Manchester.
The successful candidate will require enhanced knowledge and expertise in Multiple Sclerosis to support patient-facing clinics, review and, when appropriate, optimise treatment for patients identified within the CWP. The non-medical consultant will provide highly specialist professional advice, consultancy, clinical expertise and leadership within the MS team.
They will demonstrate advanced skills and competences to influence and inform the delivery of high-quality care for MS patients. The non-medical consultant will establish an evidence base for practice through benchmarking, audit and research in line with clinical governance, and disseminate this through appropriate channels locally, regionally, nationally and internationally as appropriate.
Responsibilities
* Provide highly specialist professional advice, consultancy, clinical expertise and leadership within the Multiple Sclerosis (MS) team.
* Support patient-facing clinics to review and optimise treatment for MS patients identified within the CWP.
* Establish an evidence base for practice through benchmarking, audit and research in line with clinical governance and disseminate findings through appropriate channels.
* Develop and strengthen links across inter-professional boundaries to promote excellence in practice; contribute to strategic service development and implement local and national policies.
* Provide strong leadership and consultancy within scope of expertise to the MS service, wider organisation and partner stakeholders.
* Actively develop and contribute to the research and evaluation agenda within the speciality and care models, ensuring continuous improvement of evidence-based care models.
* Provide managerial and professional leadership for the Lead practitioner in MS.
* Undertake administrative duties (including MDT participation) with excellent organisational and IT skills; enhance communication for complex clinical discussions.
Qualifications and skills
* Enhanced knowledge and expertise in Multiple Sclerosis.
* Ability to influence, inform and deliver high-quality MS care; strategic outlook and service development experience.
* Strong leadership, consultancy, and collaborative working skills across inter-professional teams.
* Experience in benchmarking, audit, research and dissemination of findings; commitment to clinical governance and continuous improvement.
* Excellent organisational and IT skills; effective communication for complex cases and multi-disciplinary team settings.
* Experience in working within NHS Trusts and with partners to implement local and national policies.
