Job Overview
We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior Civil Engineer to join the Infrastructure team on a long-term framework project based in Sellafield. This is a unique opportunity to be part of a collaborative, high-profile civil engineering program spanning pre-construction through delivery.
As a Senior Civil Engineer, you will be responsible for managing and delivering complex work packages involving self-performed and subcontracted activities. These include earthworks, drainage systems, road pavement construction, and both small- and large-scale reinforced concrete structures.
This role is ideal for someone with strong technical knowledge, leadership capabilities, and a commitment to quality, safety, and team development.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage assigned work packages in accordance with project programs, health and safety standards, and quality procedures.
* Lead coordination efforts with client-side technical, design, and delivery teams.
* Interface with internal departments including temporary works, lifting operations, safety, and quality teams.
* Supervise and manage specialist subcontractors, ensuring compliance and productivity.
* Mentor junior engineering staff and contribute to their development.
* Produce high-quality construction documentation and support early-stage planning.
* Participate throughout the full project lifecycle—from early development to final delivery.
* Coordinate and control safe systems of work (SSOW), hazard screening, RAMS, and permit processes.
* Track progress and productivity, comparing forecasted outcomes with actual performance.
* Maintain records, as-built documentation, and lifetime records.
* Ensure construction methods meet all required tolerances, standards, and specifications.
* Contribute to short-term planning including weekly and 4-weekly lookahead schedules.
* Uphold and promote a positive safety culture across site activities.
Requirements
* Demonstrated experience in pavement construction, bulk excavation, and reinforced concrete structures.
* Proven ability to manage self-delivered and subcontracted works, including planning, delivery, and documentation.
* Strong understanding of construction processes and safety regulations.
* Familiarity with software tools related to engineering, scheduling, and document management.
* Proficient in interpreting technical drawings and specifications.
* Experience producing SSOW, RAMS, and other safety-critical documents.
* Knowledge of NEC4 contracts, particularly the Early Warning process.
* Ability to manage lookahead programs and daily site coordination.
* SMSTS certification (Site Management Safety Training Scheme).
* Current and valid CSCS Card.
* Full UK driving licence.
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience working on major infrastructure projects, ideally within a nuclear or highly regulated environment.
* Knowledge of nuclear quality standards, tolerances, and site protocols.
* Familiarity with the T-minus 12-week work package planning process.
* Understanding of project-specific site standards and local procedures.
* Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
* Experience as a Temporary Works Coordinator or Supervisor.
* Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to resolve engineering challenges collaboratively.
