Working Pattern: This is a fixed term parental leave cover position working 30 hours per week, 39 weeks per year until 31st August 2027 (Monday to Friday)

St. Martin's C of E Primary School are looking to appoint a fantastic teaching assistant initially based in our Early Years or KS1 team from September. The role will involve working closely with a class teacher and team of teaching assistants to support our younger children to master their self-regulation as well as the fundamental skills in reading writing and maths so that they can thrive as they progress through our school.

Experience of supporting young children and/or those with additional needs would be desirable but is not essential as training and support will be offered as part of your induction.

Our TAs are also required to take on half an hour of mealtime assistant duties each day as we believe it is good to have adults who know the children well supporting them to have safe and happy lunchtimes.

Although the post is initially only required for 1 year, there is the possibility that this may be extended.

About the Role
Working under the guidance of teaching and senior staff, you will support learning in both the classroom and small group settings.

Your key responsibilities will include:

1. Supporting pupils’ welfare and personal care, including those with SEND
2. Implementing literacy and numeracy interventions
3. Assisting with planning cycles and preparing learning resources
4. Promoting positive behaviour and encouraging pupil independence
5. You will also assist with supervision during break/lunchtimes and accompany pupils on trips when required.


What We’re Looking For
We are looking for someone who can bring energy, compassion and commitment to the role.

Essential qualities include:

6. Experience working with or caring for children of a relevant age
7. Knowledge of safeguarding practice and strategies to remove barriers to learning
8. Strong communication skills, including confidence and fluency in spoken English
9. Ability to work effectively as part of a team
10. Ability to relate well to both children and adults


Desirable (but not essential):

11. Experience supporting pupils with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)
12. Knowledge of SEN practices and the national curriculum
13. Additional training in learning strategies such as literacy or numeracy
14. NVQ Level 2 for Teaching Assistants or equivalent
