Job Overview
An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Construction Manager to lead the infrastructure package on a landmark £850 million battery manufacturing facility project in Bridgwater. This state-of-the-art development includes a 15GWh lithium-ion battery plant, supporting buildings, and extensive external works.
In this leadership role, you will be responsible for overseeing the planning, coordination, and delivery of critical infrastructure works, ensuring excellence in safety, performance, and quality throughout the project lifecycle. You will be joining a well-established team delivering one of the UK's most significant new industrial facilities.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead a team of Section Managers, Package Engineers, site operatives, and subcontractors to deliver high-quality infrastructure works.
* Ensure compliance with all technical specifications, drawings, and contract documents.
* Oversee pre-construction and construction operations, stepping in as Project Manager when required.
* Coordinate with internal departments and external stakeholders including architects, engineers, client representatives, and subcontractors.
* Proactively identify and manage programme risks, and implement process improvements where necessary.
* Foster a collaborative and inclusive work culture that supports innovation, continuous improvement, and high performance.
* Set clear, measurable goals for the team, offering ongoing guidance, mentorship, and feedback.
* Promote and uphold health and safety standards in alignment with industry best practices.
Requirements
* Demonstrated leadership experience delivering infrastructure or groundworks packages on large-scale construction projects.
* In-depth knowledge of construction techniques, building products, and current regulations and quality standards.
* Proficiency in construction software tools such as Asta PowerProjects, Navisworks, and Trimble Fieldview (or similar).
* Experience working with major forms of contract, particularly NEC4 and JCT Design & Build.
* Excellent planning and organisational skills with the ability to maintain a strategic perspective.
* Strong leadership and people management capabilities.
* Valid Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) certification.
* Relevant Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card.
Preferred Qualifications
* Degree in civil engineering, structural engineering, construction management, or a related discipline.
* Professional membership with a construction-related body such as CIOB or ICE.
* NEBOSH qualification or equivalent health and safety certification.
