Protocol Education is currently recruiting Learning Mentors to work with children with social, emotional, mental health (SEMH) and SEND needs at a school in BS37.
The school is a Primary School offering alternative provision for students with SEND and SEMH who cannot access mainstream education for various reasons. Your role will involve supporting students' SEMH and SEND specific needs, their well-being, and academic progress within a structured and adapted curriculum. Most students have Educational Health Care Plans (EHCPs). As a key support worker, you will work with students to help them achieve their targets through engaging activities and tailored lessons that promote individual progress and appropriate challenges.
The school seeks candidates with previous school experience or roles such as support worker, youth worker, teaching assistant, carer, intervention tutor, or similar. They are also interested in applicants with backgrounds as ex-army personnel, ex-prison officers, ex-counsellors, or sports coaches.
This role is ideal for those seeking classroom experience before pursuing a teaching career or graduates looking for a new career opportunity.
The Role
1. Collaborate with staff, especially teachers, to support students' EHCPs and their academic and social needs.
2. Plan and deliver interventions in partnership with teachers.
3. Support behavior management to maintain a positive, constructive environment.
4. Drive a vehicle for collection and drop-offs (mileage covered).
5. De-escalate classroom situations following safeguarding procedures.
6. Report safeguarding concerns according to school policies.

Pay rates are inclusive of statutory holiday pay. This is a temporary position, with potential for permanency later.
