Independent Living Coach - Young Persons Support Worker £25,597 a year Longport, Stoke-on-Trent Hours per week 40.25 Contract type Permanent As an Independent Living Coach, you will provide advice and support to people who have experienced homelessness across our young persons, male and female 24/7 schemes. You’ll work as part of a team to manage the day to day running of the scheme, supporting customers with tenancy management, signposting for additional support with housing, health and welfare. You will be allocated a main scheme base, with the expectation that you could be requested to cover shifts across all the schemes. Job requirements Cover all reception tasks, including the phone, post and enquiries. Respond to neighbourhood concerns appropriately by recording details of any queries or concerns. Support new customers when they move in to make sure they understand their rights and responsibilities. Make sure they feel comfortable and informed about their agreement, the local area and other services. Support customers to manage their rent and service charge payments, including their benefits claims where necessary, arranging appointments with organisations such as DWP. Provide advice to customers on health, housing and other issues as necessary, signposting them to other agencies and accompanying them to appointments where appropriate. Maintain the safety and security of customers and the building by supervising the entrance and exit and undertaking regular health and safety checks of the rooms and communal areas. Deal with the immediate needs of customers as appropriate. Provide crisis intervention, defuse difficult or dangerous situations in a sensitive and effective way. Support with financial and administrative duties when needed. What they’re looking for Educated to GCSE level or with a good level of Maths and English. Some experience dealing directly with the public and/or clients or customers in a busy service environment. Some experience dealing with complex and difficult behaviours in relation to people facing multiple disadvantages. Knowledge of confidentiality and the importance of discretion in relation to maintaining professional boundaries. Knowledge of how to support vulnerable people make changes in their lives. Great communication skills. Genuine understanding and compassion for people without a home, who won’t judge but will instead will empower and give them a voice. Flexible and adaptable. Able to work on a rota, including mornings, evenings and weekends and bank holidays including Christmas and New Year. Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks and demands. Idea generation and implementation. DBS check. Full UK driving licence and use of your own vehicle for work.
