NCF Head of Communications and Engagement

Responsibilities
* Set the strategic direction for all communications activity across the National Cyber Force (NCF).
* Lead ground‑breaking initiatives for the global defence community and influence the reputation of the NCF and its partners GCHQ, MI5 and MI6.
* Lead and line‑manage a talented, multi‑disciplinary team, build capability and foster an inclusive, supportive culture where everyone can thrive.
* Act as a trusted advisor to senior leaders, providing expert counsel on reputation, stakeholder engagement and strategic communications.
* Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders across government, media and sector partners.
* Oversee all communications—media relations, internal messaging and public affairs—ensuring an integrated approach.
* Develop and deliver the overall communications strategy, ensuring it supports business objectives and aligns with the Government Communication Plan.
* Provide direct input into corporate planning and board‑level decision making, working collaboratively with policy, operations and corporate teams.
Qualifications
* Extensive experience leading a communications function at a senior level with a track record of delivering measurable strategic outcomes.
* Deep understanding of the media landscape, digital communications and emerging trends.
* Strong judgement and the ability to provide clear, credible advice to senior stakeholders.
* Leadership, learning and development skills; experience motivating and building a supportive team.

* Influencing and relationship‑management skills, including engagement with board members and external partners.
* Innovative mindset and flexibility to shift priorities in fast‑moving situations.
* Ability to distil complex issues into compelling narratives and challenge constructively when needed.
* Experience from any background (media relations, campaigns, digital or internal communications) with a breadth of knowledge.
* Experience managing budgets and resources, with portfolio examples that demonstrate capabilities.
* Professional accreditation in communications (e.g. degree, diploma, NCTJ, CIPR).
Location & Travel
This role is office‑based at our Samlesbury site. Some out‑of‑hours work is expected depending on external communication requests, with flexitime offering allowing you to take back time when needed. Travel across the UK will be required to engage with stakeholders, partners and team members at other sites.
