Children's Diabetes Clinical Nurse Specialist

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Children's Diabetes CNS to join an established team dedicated to managing diabetes in children at Ipswich Hospital. You will provide specialist clinical advice and care to children and young people with diabetes.
We are looking for a confident, innovative and experienced children's nurse who will be required to work within a multidisciplinary team providing support to acute services. You will need to be a good team player and be able to develop collaborative working relationships with other healthcare professionals, services and agencies.
Main duties of the job
The post holder is responsible for the provision of specialist children’s diabetes service by acting autonomously to assess and treat own case load of patients.
Develop, facilitate and provide education of specialist knowledge for nursing, medical and paramedical staff through extensive knowledge of diabetes and its management.
The post holder will be an advocate for children and their families, promoting child‑focus family‑centred care and act as a resource for health care professionals involved with these patients.
The post holder will support a specialist daily service to in‑patients, providing expert nursing interventions, advice and support to children and families.
The post holder will support and participate in audit research and advancement of the Diabetes service, assisting with the development of specialist protocols and education package.
To work as part of the Paediatric Diabetes team to ensure that criteria for Best Practice Tariff (BPT) are met.

Person Specification
Experience
* Proven post registration basic experience of working within a relevant field of diabetes
* Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team
* Mentoring / supervision of other professionals
* Evidence of change management to improve the patient experience
Qualifications
* RGN/RSCN/ RN Child
* Diabetes related diploma / recognised qualification (working towards / willingness to complete)
* Mentorship / teaching equivalent
* BSc
* Non-medical Prescribing
Knowledge
* Sound clinical knowledge of current issues affecting children with diabetes
* Clear understanding of and a commitment to clinical governance
