Job Overview
We are looking for enthusiastic, flexible and well‑motivated individuals to join our Pharmacy team. Successful candidates will rotate between Pharmacy stores and the Whiston and St Helens Hospital dispensaries and participate in our evening, weekend and bank holiday rotas. Attention to detail and the ability to work accurately in a fast‑paced environment is essential. Good communication skills and a willingness to learn are important.
Main Duties of the Job
* Participate in the ATO rota through stores, dispensaries and wards.
* Assist in the receipt of prescriptions.
* Provide pharmacy services to wards and clinics, maintaining and controlling medicines.
* Book in and audit prescriptions using the latest software.
* Prepare and assemble supplies of medicines for delivery to wards and departments.
* Maintain manual and computerised records for stock receipt, storage and issue.
* Provide a ward topping‑up service, supplying medication on a weekly basis.
* Co‑operate with staffing needs and participate in staff rotation to other sites such as St Helens.
* Prepare and assemble resuscitation and anaphylaxis boxes.
* Control stock of medicines under the supervision of the dispensary manager or senior technician.
* Handle or process cash or cheques for out‑patients prescriptions.
* Comply with legal and other requirements for the purchase, supply, use, safe custody and destruction of drugs.
* Participate in Saturday, Sunday and bank holiday rotas.
* Participate in evening and on‑call rotas as required by service needs.
* Assist with basic counselling of out‑patients under supervision of a pharmacist or Pharmacy technician.
* Answer telephone and face‑to‑face queries of routine or basic technical nature.
* Liaise with Pharmacy team and ward staff to solve supply problems and ensure patient service.
* Maintain safety of drugs awaiting collection by nursing staff.
* Participate in individual performance reviews and continuing education programmes.
* Ensure accurate data entry into the Pharmacy JAC computer system.
* Assist in the completion and filing of departmental documents.
* Act as a role model and assist in training and induction of other technical staff.
* Approach NVQ Level 2 – Pharmacy Service Skills qualification as required.

Qualifications and Experience
* NVQ Level II in Pharmacy Services (hold or work towards). GPhC recognised equivalent acceptable.
* Good communication skills, written and verbal.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Attention to detail and high specification of accuracy.
* Understanding of confidentiality and commitment to continual professional development.
* Physical effort: ability to sit at VDU and handle deliveries of drugs.
* Mental effort: concentration required for stock issue and checking.
* Self‑motivated and flexible.
