Overview
This is an exciting opportunity to join our team of phlebotomists working for the Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust.
We are looking for individuals who have evidence of a good level of education and a determination to deliver high quality compassionate care to our patients.
Our phlebotomy team deliver a high-quality, patient-focused blood taking service in a wide range of settings across Calderdale and Kirklees. This includes taking blood in two hospitals, GP surgeries, outpatient services, community diagnostic centres, and patients’ homes.
Responsibilities
* Maintain patient dignity and confidentiality at all times.
* Adhere to Trust Aseptic Non-Touch Technique Policy (ANTT).
* Work unsupervised in hospital settings, community clinics, and undertake domiciliary (home) visits, along with business insurance.
* Keep fully stocked phlebotomy trolleys, cupboards and drawers within blood collection units and clinics and support stock taking in community settings.
* Maintain work areas and trolleys, keeping them clean, neat, and tidy.
* Undertake surveys/audits when requested to do so.
* Attend to staff and patients’ queries, referring appropriately.
* Comply with all Health and Safety Regulations.
* Use a visual display unit to book appointments and access the Trust intranet, Q-pulse, and work-related e-mails.
* Commit to a seven-day service inclusive of bank holidays between 08:00 and 20:00, with flexibility to adapt to service needs.
* Cover for other staff when required.
* Carry out any other duties as defined by the Phlebotomy Operations Manager and Team Leader in charge.
Qualifications and Requirements
* Evidence of a good level of education and a determination to deliver high-quality compassionate care.
* Good IT skills; experience in a health care setting or customer service-focused role preferred.
* Previous experience in venepuncture desirable but not essential; full training will be provided to the right calibre of person.
* Ability to work under pressure and meet travel requirements; access to a vehicle for work purposes is required.
* Phlebotomy can be physically challenging, requiring manual dexterity, ability to be on your feet throughout the shift, and the ability to manoeuvre in tight and cramped positions.
* Flexibility to work across hospital sites, community sites, and patients’ homes as service needs evolve.
* Relevant posts will be subject to an enhanced DBS disclosure.
Hours and Location
We operate a seven-day service, including bank holidays, between 08:00 and 20:00. The post holder will be required to work across all these times to deliver the service. The service requirements are continually changing to meet patient needs, so flexibility is a key component.
