Primary and secondary SEN (Special Educational Needs) schools and specialist provisions in Basingstoke and the surrounding areas are seeking adaptable, confident supply teachers from January onwards. Roles range from day-to-day cover and short-term placements to longer-term supply for those wanting more consistency.

These schools support pupils with autism, learning difficulties, communication needs, sensory processing differences, and complex cognitive profiles. About the Pupils and Their Needs

As an SEN supply teacher in Basingstoke, you may teach pupils who:

* Have autism spectrum conditions with communication or sensory differences

* Experience moderate to severe learning difficulties (MLD/SLD)

* Have speech, language and communication needs (SLCN)

* Need support with social interaction or interpreting social cues

* Have cognitive delays that impact processing and memory

* Experience sensory overload or require structured regulation opportunities

Providing clear expectations, routine, and reassurance is essential in supply roles.





Role Responsibilities

As an SEN Supply Teacher, you will:

* Deliver pre-planned lessons and adapt activities to meet individual needs

* Follow established classroom routines to maintain consistency for pupils

* Work closely with TAs and take guidance from SENCOs and class teachers

* Use visual supports, communication systems, structured teaching approaches, and sensory strategies

* Build quick, positive relationships to support engagement and behaviour

* Support personal care routines where required

* Uphold safeguarding, behaviour, and reporting procedures in each school

Long-term supply roles may include planning and assessment and will be paid in line with the Teacher Pay Scale (MPS/UPS).

* Work Type: Day-to-day supply, short-term cover, and long-term supply roles

* Availability: Full-time or part-time

* Term-time only

* CPD offered, including training in autism, sensory regulation, and communication systems

* Location: Basingstoke and surrounding areas (e.g., Chineham, Hook, Tadley, Whitchurch)

Requirements

* QTS or QTLS

* Enhanced Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain)
