Senior Modelling & AI Consultant

Salary: between £55,000 and £70,000 (depending on experience and capability) plus other financial and non-financial benefits
This position is aligned with our Consultant and Senior Consultant internal job roles.

Location: Bristol (Hybrid)

Working Pattern: We operate a flexible hybrid working pattern at Frazer-Nash, with time split between the office, client sites and working from home.

We are looking for experienced consultants with a background in digital mission engineering, modelling & simulation to join our modelling team and contribute to developing our mission engineering services.

Job Description:
At Frazer-Nash we combine deep domain expertise, robust systems engineering principles and the latest digital technologies to help clients to make better evidence-based decisions, faster, and with confidence. You will join the modelling team to work on projects applying the mission engineering approach to integrate systems engineering, modelling, data science, and subject matter expertise.
Our modelling teams support clients with the following services:

* Operational modelling, simulation & optimisation

* Novel concept R&D and assessment

* RF and EW physics modelling

* Operational research and analysis

* Decision optimisation under uncertainty

* Developing AI decision-making systems

* Decision science and decision support tools

The team is highly collaborative, often working closely with experts in requirements, systems engineering, software development, and those with operational experience.
Recent projects include:

* Research & development of multi-agent reinforcement learning agents for agent-based model simulations, to identify novel adversary actions in support of wargaming.

* Research & development of LLM-based tools for natural language interactions with simulation outputs.

* Delivery of a proof-of-concept study into generation after next AI-based maritime defence systems for Dstl. Integrating naval fleet defence algorithms and AI targeting and tracking models into a bespoke simulation environment.

* Evaluation of novel AI use cases for improving efficiency of the Royal Navy's combined real and synthetic training systems.

* Building AI tools to automatically extract data and quantitative insights from local area energy plans, regional energy strategies and national strategies. Using uncertain data to build statistical forecasting tools for future demand and system change.

* Development of a renewable energy spatial planning optimisation methods to maximise the value of the UK seabed while meeting UK Net Zero targets.

* You will also have the chance to get involved in our other consultancy market sectors including major infrastructure, transport, civil nuclear and defence.


Requirements
We are looking for candidates who can bring diversity of thought and fresh ideas, alongside their understanding of the energy policy and market context to society's next challenges.
We are looking for candidates who:

* Have held technical responsibility for delivery of large (5+ people, > 1 year) modelling, simulation, or operational research projects including artificial intelligence (e.g. RL, GenAI, LLMs) or optimisation.

* Have demonstrable experience designing appropriate technical solutions and delivery approaches to deliver projects integrating artificial intelligence into decision-support tools, through problem definition, technical development, verification & validation and deployment.

* Have experience leading engagements with senior stakeholders, identifying beneficial use cases for AI, supporting clients' investment cases, and integrating solutions into clients' systems and processes.

* Are experienced at developing service offerings to clients and writing winning proposals.

* Additional beneficial experience includes those who:

* Have experience building integrated modelling systems (e.g. MCP, LAMs) to create more powerful analysis and decision-making tools.

* Have experience building fast-running surrogate models to improve the speed of analysis and decision-making, appropriately balancing accuracy with speed.

* Experience deploying AI into operation, including integration with live data systems.

* Have a depth of knowledge in one of Frazer-Nash's market sectors or key clients.

* Have contributed to an organisation's continuous improvement, actively contributing to the development of others through mentoring, knowledge sharing and thought leadership.

Due to the nature of the work that Frazer-Nash Consultancy undertake, candidates will be required to undergo pre-employment screening and must be able to satisfy clearance criteria for UK National Security Vetting.
