Ivy Resource Group are currently recruiting to hire an Electrician to join the permanent construction division for one of our clients based in Newcastle.
The Company
They are a nationwide, leading retailer with over 1,000 stores across the UK. The role involves working on the existing estate of stores, carrying out planned and reactive electrical maintenance, new store installations, and working alongside shop fit contractors.
Responsibilities
* Survey sites where electrical systems are installed in buildings, fixtures and other components to ensure they remain functional and comply with legislation, and to identify any hazards that could disrupt operations.
* Draft electrical installation plans and technical diagrams for all wiring, including emergency lighting, fire alarm systems and portable appliance testing.
* Install, maintain, modify and repair all electrical systems in buildings and associated external areas.
* Ensure electrical systems adhere to safety standards and regulations.
* Supervise ongoing installations and provide technical expertise to installation teams.
* Complete remedial work following the 5‑year fixed‑wire test reports.
* Identify and repair electrical problems.
* Advise management on when to replace aged electrical equipment to prevent hazards.
* Conduct general maintenance and troubleshoot electrical issues with testing equipment.
* Perform emergency work to make buildings safe in response to hazardous events (e.g., floods).
* Power down buildings autonomously outside trading hours and be accountable for safety.
* Supervise and train apprentice and junior electricians on installation and repair of electrical systems.
Qualifications
* Qualified to 18th edition electrical installation with 3+ years’ experience in the role.
* Up-to-date training on the Electric Code, BSI codes and other relevant building codes.
* PASMA (tower scaffolding) trained.
* Annual asbestos awareness certification, UKAS accredited.
* Good general construction knowledge.
* Excellent personal organisational skills.
* Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
* Ability to track industrial systems and adhere to electrical code.
* Ability to react to unplanned or emergency work when required.
Salary
£37,500 per annum + overtime rates

Working hours: 8.30 am – 5 pm
