CIEEM is recruiting for a new Policy Officer
37.5 hours per week, full-time permanent
Location: Ampfield (Hampshire) or remote
Salary: £29,929 – £32,190 per annum (dependent on experience)
The Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) is the leading professional membership body for ecologists and environmental managers working to protect and enhance the natural environment.
CIEEM is increasingly recognised by its members and external stakeholders as the voice of the profession through our effective, evidence-based and knowledgeable input into, and support for, policy and practice.
We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for a Policy Officer to join our team. This role will work closely with the Policy team, the wider secretariat and volunteers to deliver CIEEM’s policy ambitions in England and Wales, along with facilitating our climate action activities.
About the role
The successful candidate will:
* Support the delivery of our policy engagement and influencing objectives in England and Wales.
* Help ensure that the expertise and experience of CIEEM members, together with the best available evidence, informs the development and improvement of environmental policy and legislation.
* Contribute to raising the profile of the profession and the vital role it plays in protecting nature and supporting sustainable development.
* Coordinate CIEEM’s climate action and activities.
* Facilitate the publication of CIEEM’s quarterly In Practice.

About you
We are looking for someone who is:
* Enthusiastic, motivated and eager to learn.
* Able to demonstrate understanding of, or a strong interest in, environmental and nature conservation policy in England and Wales.
* An excellent communicator, able to build relationships and represent CIEEM’s values effectively.
This position would suit a recent graduate or an early-career professional looking to develop their skills in policy and advocacy within a supportive and purposeful environment.
Preference will be given to candidates who have either a strong policy or environmental background.

Location
This post can be based at the CIEEM office in Ampfield (near Romsey in Hampshire), or be home-based (remote).
For staff living near the office, we support working up to 50% of the time from home.
If remote, some travel to the office in Ampfield and to other parts of England and Wales will be required.
We will also consider other flexible working arrangements.
