Youth Support Worker, Oxford, £ – £ per hour
Role Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Youth Support Worker to join our customers team in Oxford. As a Youth Support Worker, you will play a vital role in supporting young people aged 11-18 who are experiencing vulnerabilities, including risk of exploitation, involvement in crime or anti-social behaviour, family breakdown, missing episodes, or challenges around emotional wellbeing. Your goal will be to build trusting relationships, reduce risk, and empower young people to make safe and positive decisions for their future, utilising your expertise in youth support and development to drive positive outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and maintain positive, trusting relationships with young people, providing emotional support and guidance to help them navigate challenging situations, including risk of exploitation and anti-social behaviour
Assess the needs of young people, identifying potential risks and developing tailored support plans to address these risks, in collaboration with other professionals, such as social workers, teachers, and healthcare providers
Collaborate with other professionals to ensure a comprehensive and coordinated approach to supporting young people, including those with mental health issues or experiencing family breakdown
Provide guidance and support to help young people develop essential life skills, including decision-making, problem-solving, and communication, to enhance their emotional wellbeing and future prospects
Work with young people to identify and pursue positive activities, education, and employment opportunities, helping them to build a stable and fulfilling future, and supporting their transition into adulthood
Required Skills & Experience
Experience of working with young people, particularly those who are vulnerable or at risk, including those experiencing exploitation, crime, or mental health issues
Ability to build strong, trusting relationships with young people and other professionals, including social workers, teachers, and healthcare providers
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to adapt your approach to meet the needs of individual young people, including those with complex needs or challenging behaviour
Knowledge of the challenges and risks faced by young people, including exploitation, crime, and mental health issues, and the ability to develop effective support plans to address these risks
Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a flexible and proactive approach to supporting young people, including those with diverse needs and backgrounds
