Are you a recent graduate in Psychology, Health and Social Care, or Education? Five Education is offering exciting positions mentoring children with SEND. We work with Primary, Secondary, and Specialist schools in Taunton and surrounding areas, and are looking for Teaching Assistants/Mentors to support students with dysregulated behaviour. These students need support in engaging during lessons and group activities, often displaying challenging behaviours and requiring emotional support. An understanding of emotional needs and an empathetic approach are desirable for this role.
The ideal candidate will be thoughtful, patient, flexible, and willing to cover colleagues' duties occasionally. This role provides an excellent opportunity for graduates aspiring to a future in teaching.
Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Assist the lead teacher in engaging the student as much as possible.
2. Work on a one-to-one basis with students.
3. Be flexible and willing to work outside the classroom when needed.
4. Use de-escalation techniques to keep the student calm.
5. Provide a positive role model for young people.
6. Show compassion and patience.
Essential Criteria:
* Ability to demonstrate positive reinforcement.
* Confidence in building relationships with pupils.
* Right to work in the UK (valid visa).
* Access to bicycle, car, or proximity to main bus routes.
* Availability to work 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM, five days per week, during term time.
* Relevant references and DBS/police checks, if required. If you do not have a Non-Voluntary Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, we can assist with processing a new one at a cost of £62.70, refundable after 20 days of work.
Additional Information:
The roles are term-time only, starting ASAP until July 22nd, then resuming from September.
