Position Summary
The Practical Skills Learning Support Assistant will engage and support our most vulnerable learners by ensuring that effective support is in place to enable them to fulfil their potential. The LSA will take responsibility for agreed learning activities with individuals or groups under the guidance of delivery staff and will occasionally take responsibility for whole sessions where the primary focus will be to maintain good order and keep learners on task.
The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting tutors in the practical skills sessions, delivered in our Construction, Engineering or Land Based departments. This role requires a background in construction, engineering/manufacturing or environmental/landscaping/horticulture and a commitment to attention to detail.
This role would suit someone that has experience in construction, engineering /manufacturing or horticulture/landscaping but is interested in a change of direction and the opportunity to pass on their knowledge to learners.
Experience in delivering training, teaching or assessing is desirable, however full training will be provided to the right candidates that have the drive to succeed.
Key responsibilities and accountabilities
* Motivate and inspire learners establishing positive and respectful working relationships, use interactive and engaging approaches to teaching, promoting timely achievement and enabling positive progression.
* Support and deliver inspiring training and coaching sessions to groups and individual learners.
* To coach, mentor and guide learners who are engaged on training programmes.
* Support Tutors to maintain up to date and accurate records of individual learning and progress through the programme, provide swift support and intervention for learners who start to fall behind.
* Provide good levels of support and guidance and effective workplace training.
* Maintain safe learning environments, effectively promote Health and Safety,
* Ensure inclusive learning environments, effectively promote equality, diversity and inclusion and British values.
* Support learners with SEND to meet their specific needs and overcome individual barriers to learning, where appropriate collaborating with learning support assistants and EHCP officer.
* Embed English, maths and employability in vocational sessions to prepare learners for the world of work.
* Contribute to and participate in quality improvement activities.
* Take responsibility for keeping up to date with appropriate sector and educational developments, including industrial updates and participate in appropriate training and development activities that support your performance.
* Operate with flexibility around location and programme
* Carry out duties in accordance with the Quality Systems and Procedures currently in place throughout the organisation.
* Ensure the operation of efficient and safe environments and perform with due regard for the health, safety and welfare of all within the guidelines of Springboard's Health and Safety Policy
* Assist in marketing and promotion of Springboard programmes and services.
* To undertake other such duties which are commensurate with the post as may be required from time to time, by the Chief Executive or other Springboard Managers
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential Skills and Experience
Recognised qualifications in a practical skills discipline at a minimum of level 2 or equivalent
* Up to date knowledge and experience of a practical skills role in one of the following areas - Construction, Engineering/Manufacturing, Horticulture
* Good time management and organisational skills
* Able to travel to meet the needs of the role.
Desirable
* Teaching and assessment qualification or working towards
* Experience of working with young people
* Experience of liaising with outside agencies
* Experience within a training or related environment
* Ability to plan, produce and deliver effective training sessions using and evaluating teaching methods appropriate to learner groups
* Safeguarding and Prevent, ensuring learners are aware of strategies for staying safe online.
