Behaviour Support Worker (Full‑Time) – Secondary Pupil Referral Unit

Make a real difference where it matters most.
Teaching Personnel is seeking a committed and resilient Behaviour Support Worker to join a Secondary PRU within the Manchester area supporting pupils who have experienced exclusions or are at risk of exclusion, and who may present with SEMH needs such as emotional dysregulation, trauma and Adverse Childhood experiences (ACEs), attachment and trust difficulties, low self‑esteem, anxiety/depression, challenging behaviour, social communication needs, school refusal/low attendance, and complex safeguarding backgrounds.

If you build trust quickly, stay calm under pressure, and believe every young person deserves a fresh start, we’d love to hear from you.

-----------------------------------

About the Role

You’ll work as part of a supportive, multi‑disciplinary team to help pupils re‑engage with learning, develop self‑regulation, and rebuild routines that lead to sustained progress. This is a full‑time, term‑time role ideally suited to someone who is consistent, compassionate and confident using trauma‑informed and restorative approaches.

-----------------------------------

Key Responsibilities

* Deliver 1:1 and small‑group interventions (e.g., emotional regulation, social skills, behaviour coaching, reintegration support).
* Support de‑escalation using low‑arousal, trauma‑informed techniques and restorative practice following incidents.
* Provide consistent classroom support, including proactive behaviour management, clear expectations, and structured routines.
* Track and report on behaviour, attendance, and wellbeing; escalate safeguarding concerns in line with policy.
* Support transition and reintegration, including managed moves back to mainstream or next‑step provision.
* Model positive language, boundaries and emotional literacy at all times.
* Contribute to a safe, inclusive environment, ensuring high expectations with warmth and consistency.
-----------------------------------

Requirements

* Experience supporting secondary‑aged pupils with SEMH/behavioural needs, ideally in a PRU, AP, or specialist setting.
* Strong understanding of trauma‑informed practice, attachment‑aware approaches and positive behaviour support.
* Skilled in de‑escalation and restorative conversations; able to remain calm, consistent, and solution‑focused.
* Excellent communication with pupils, staff, and families; confident record‑keeping and teamwork.
* Resilient, reliable and reflective; committed to inclusion and safeguarding.
* Enhanced DBS (on the Update Service or willing to apply) and suitable references.
-----------------------------------

What We Offer

* A supportive, skilled team that values wellbeing, training, and professional growth.
* Regular CPD (SEMH, behaviour support, safeguarding, de‑escalation).
* The chance to change outcomes for pupils who need the right adult at the right time.
* Clear routines, high expectations—and a culture of belonging and fresh starts.
-----------------------------------
