Overview
University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is offering a 12-month fixed term contract for an experienced physician to support ICU services at General Intensive Care Unit, University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust. The role commences as soon as possible.
The post may be full-time or part-time; job sharing is welcome and adjustments to the content will be discussed if required. Applicanths should have prior critical care medicine or anaesthetics experience and be competent in airway skills.
Responsibilities
* Provide registrar-level cover across the General ICU, working closely with ICM or Anaesthetic Specialist Registrars and ACCPs.
* Support the provision of a first-class clinical service and provide effective middle-grade leadership (ST3 level or above) to unit staff.
* Support clinical decision making of medical and nursing staff on the unit.
* Lead, in conjunction with the Consultant workforce, the education programme for junior doctors.
* Undertake work in accordance with the Trust's procedures and operating policies.
* Conduct clinical practice by contractual requirements within the parameters of the Trust's and Division's service plans.
Requirements
* Medical qualification with Full GMC Registration.
* Experience in critical care medicine or anaesthetics and competence in airway skills.
* Willingness to work as part of the middle-grade rota and to transfer to other clinical areas as required (e.g., Cardiac ICM, Neuro ICM, Paediatric ICM, General Medicine).
* Demonstrated commitment to CPD with an educational supervisor and annual appraisal; ability to meet GMC revalidation requirements.
* Eligibility for CESR pathway consideration or single speciality training where applicable.
Additional Information
* The post is subject to local contractual terms for Trust-appointed (non-training) fellows; CPD opportunities and study leave are available.
* Basic salary details are provided with nodal pay points; salary will be assessed based on experience and qualifications.
* Travel expenses for interview are not paid; GMC registration and right to work in the UK are essential.

Qualifications, Training & Experience
* Full GMC Registration
* Medical Degree
* Core Training in a relevant specialty (ICM or Anaesthesia)
* At least 2 years’ NHS (or equivalent) experience
* Competent in airway skills
Desirable
* MRCP, FRCS, MCEM or similar
* Current ATLS or ALS
* Qualification in Medical Education
* Experience in Research activity or commitment to learning
* Experience of FUSIC or commitment to learn
* Experience in Quality Improvement or Audit
* Experience in teaching/training professionals, including SIM
Aptitudes and Skills
