Overview
The remit of the post holder will be to work within the multi-disciplinary team providing and further developing care for frail, older patients from across the emergency pathway and to provide and develop a Geriatric Emergency Medicine model that aligns with the well-established multi-professional team in the Acute Frailty Assessment Unit. In addition, the individual will be required to play an active role in the general workload of the Care Group while having a significant commitment to teaching and training of junior staff. We welcome interest from a skilled Consultant in Geriatric Emergency Medicine to lead the specialized care of older adults with complex medical and frailty-related needs across the emergency pathway including ED and Frailty Same Day Emergency Care. This is a new role with the potential for professional growth in service development, clinical leadership and medical education. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with emergency, geriatric, and multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient flow, reduce unnecessary admissions, and improve outcomes through timely, holistic, and evidence-based care in an acute setting. Delivering expert assessment, diagnosis, and management tailored to the unique challenges faced by elderly patients.
Responsibilities
* Lead the specialized care of older adults with complex medical and frailty-related needs across the emergency pathway including ED and Frailty Same Day Emergency Care.
* Develop and sustain the Geriatric Emergency Medicine model within the Acute Frailty Assessment Unit in collaboration with the multi-professional team.
* Play an active role in the general workload of the Care Group and contribute to teaching and training of junior staff.
* Work with emergency, geriatric, and multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient flow, reduce unnecessary admissions, and improve outcomes.
* Deliver expert assessment, diagnosis, and management tailored to the elderly patient in an acute setting.
