In-House Solicitor – YTL Arena Bristol
We have an exciting opening for an In-house Real Estate Solicitor to join our ambitious legal team providing YTL UK Group with expert legal advice and guidance. YTL UK Group comprises a range of companies working in the water and sewerage, engineering and construction, property development, waste management and renewable energy sectors. The group includes Wessex Water, one of the top-performing water and sewerage companies in the UK, serving 2.9 million customers across the South West of England, and a project portfolio including Filton Airfield development and the YTL Arena in Bristol.
Our collaborative and professional team of In-house Solicitors covers all legal matters, including water industry and regulatory issues, commercial arrangements, data protection issues and property-related matters.
What you'll do
You will report to the Group Legal Services Director and work with other lawyers in the team. You will provide legal advice and support across the YTL UK Group in relation to its property portfolio and land acquisition and use needs. Day to day, you will be advising on a variety of property-related transactions and matters, and you will work with a range of internal clients and business support teams, including those concerned with the property holdings of the regulated business and those working with varied commercial sites across a sizeable mixed-use development.
You will deal with enquiries from transactional processes and land access to matters relating to the statutory underpinning of the water and sewerage sector. You will also provide strategic advice on the management of a major commercial, residential and entertainment site, including land acquisition (freehold and leasehold), option agreements, conditional contracts, residential and commercial land development, pipeline easements and wayleaves, and compound licences.
Our team is busy and we pride ourselves on meeting challenging timescales while remaining friendly, supportive and approachable. You will need to develop positive working relationships with senior management and internal clients, communicate effectively, and demonstrate influencing skills. You should be methodical and organised, flexible when needed, and capable of working independently while knowing when to seek guidance or escalate matters.
What you'll need
We Are Looking For
* a qualified solicitor with at least two years of post-qualification experience in real estate law, focusing on all aspects of commercial property matters
* experience in the water sector (or other utility/regulatory sector) – desirable but not essential
* good problem-solving skills, adaptability, initiative and the ability to be proactive
As you will support a wide range of internal clients, including senior management, you should demonstrate confident, effective communication and influencing skills and the ability to quickly develop positive working relationships within the business. A methodical and organised approach will help you be flexible and respond positively to challenges. You should be able to work independently but recognise when to seek guidance and when to escalate matters.
