Overview

Join to apply for the Maintenance Technician - Electrician role at NHS Scotland.

This role involves maintaining a range of building services, plant and equipment, diagnosing and repairing faults as they occur, and planning day-to-day workload and material management to include documentation, completion and sign off. The position is based with NHS Lanarkshire in the Monklands area.


Responsibilities

* Maintain NHSL’s mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and building services plant and building fabric assets to a high standard.
* Plan and prioritise day-to-day workload and manage materials, documentation, completion and sign off.
* Diagnose faults and carry out repairs on complex and non-routine building services equipment.


What we’ll need you to bring

* Completion of apprenticeship in Mechanical or Electrical Bias plus an HNC or equivalent, with an additional non-core training qualification at SVQ level or equivalent.
* Experience of working in an estates service environment.
* Knowledge and understanding of current statutory legislative requirements.
* Experience inspecting and planning work related to preventive planned maintenance (PPM) and reactives.
* Willingness to undertake in-house training relevant to the position (statutory training, Archibus, Learnpro, Toolbox Talks).
* Additional knowledge through training for Portable Appliance Testing, periodic testing, sterilisation equipment, asbestos awareness, legionella awareness and prevention, tube system maintenance, PLC controllers, steam/boilers, etc., to achieve competency and/or accreditation.
* Accredited Boiler/Steam course with accreditation to meet HSE and Insurance requirements for competent person.
* Specific Medical Gas training and Medical Gas Pipeline Systems training to ensure competency.
* Sterilisers and autoclave accredited courses for competent person status.
* Healthcare Ventilation course for competent person status.
* Specialist manufacturer courses for unique industrial equipment (e.g., specialist laundry equipment).
* Develop additional skills through training in other specialist areas (e.g., Complex Air Conditioning systems).
* Multiple additional courses evidenced in training records to ensure legislative compliance and available on request.
* Car driver with a full, valid UK/EU/EEA licence.

Note: for all vacancies where a driving licence is required this must be a full UK/EU/EEA licence.


Nice to have

* Must have served at least a 4-year apprenticeship in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering and achieved City & Guilds Part 3, ONC or equivalent.
* Basic training in Health & Safety, Manual Handling and CPR.
* Experience maintaining complex building services, plant and equipment; diagnosing faults; risk assessments; wide range of electrical and mechanical equipment; working in a multi-premises environment.
* Ability to plan and prioritise workload, coordinate material management, and work with minimal supervision.
* Communication skills across a range of staff; understanding of specialist healthcare services; competency as a competent person in a suitable technical discipline.
* Willingness to undertake surveys or audits and submit reports.

* Hours: 37 hours per week
* Location: PSSD Maintenance within University Hospital Monklands; working pattern to be confirmed
