What You’ll Be Doing:
As a Principal Structural Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in designing and analyzing complex steel structures that support submarine builds. Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring safety and compliance throughout the engineering process. Here’s what you can expect:
* Design and analyze complex steel structures using Eurocodes, British Standards, and BAE standards, employing FEA and classical calculation analysis.
* Apply your knowledge of regulations that extend beyond BAE Systems, including LOLER, Codes of Compliance, Weld Specifications, and Geometric Tolerance.
* Interpret data using computer-based analytical techniques, including finite element analysis, CAD modeling, and engineering schematics (Abaqus, S-Frame).
* Support the manufacturing, assembly, lifting, handling, and installation processes of submarine structures.
* Produce concept drawings, layouts, and other technical outputs that meet contractual requirements while adhering to target dates and budget constraints.
* Check and approve calculations to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Your Skills and Experiences:
Essential:
* BEng/MEng in Engineering or equivalent experience.
* Civil/Manufacturing/Structural Engineering background with Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status nearing CEng.
* Expertise in structural steel analysis and design.
* Fully conversant with Eurocodes and British Standards.
* Competent in reviewing and checking design outputs.
* Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering, structural steelwork, and lifting handling (LOLER).
Desirable:
* Familiarity with ABAQUS, S-Frame, NX, MathCAD, and Excel.
* Previous experience in a production or marine production environment.

The Production Engineering Department Team:
As a Principal Structural Engineer, you will be part of a dynamic team that includes both designers and engineers. You’ll be joining a rapidly growing team on an exciting new program, conducting engineering assessments to support the build process. Collaborating closely with the design team, you will contribute to the development of equipment and provide operational and production support for the delivery of safety-critical systems. Relocation support is available for all submarine roles, subject to eligibility criteria.
