Your new role
As a Mechanical Day Technician, you will be responsible for delivering planned and reactive maintenance on gantry crane equipment within a busy container handling environment. This is a days‑based role, focused on ensuring the ongoing reliability, availability, and safe performance of critical lifting and handling assets.You will carry out maintenance activities in line with safe systems of work, actively contributing to a strong safety culture across all operations. Working closely with the Engineering Manager, you willmunicate equipment condition, breakdowns, and parts or materials requirements in a timely and accurate manner.The role includes responding to operational breakdowns, diagnosing faults, andpleting repairs efficiently and safely to minimise downtime. You will also be expected toplete required training as necessary and demonstrate flexibility in developing additional skills where appropriate.This position is classified as safety critical and may involve activities such as driving on site, working at height, working in confined spaces, operating plant, manual handling, lone working, and night work. Successful applicants will be required toplete a pre‑placement medical assessment to confirm fitness for the role.
What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in this role, you will have a strong mechanical engineering background, ideally with experience on container handling or gantry crane equipment. You will also require:
1. A minimum ONC (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering
2. Strong troubleshooting, fault‑finding, and repair experience
3. A good understanding of modern maintenance strategies such as RCM, FMECA, CBM, and TPM
4. Experience working with motors and variable speed controllers
5. The ability to work safely in a high‑risk, operational environment
6. A full and valid UK driving licence
