Locum Consultant Paediatric Neurologist

An exciting opportunity has arisen for the post of Locum Consultant in Paediatric Neurology at the Noah's Ark Children's Hospital for Wales in Cardiff. Applicants with sub‑specialty interests to complement the work of the department are welcomed. This post is available for an initial period of six months pending planned recruitment to a substantive post in the near future.
Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is recognised as a teaching centre of excellence in a wide range of clinical services.
Although this post is full‑time, consideration will be given to applicants who require flexible working arrangements.
You will be able to take advantage of the excellent Consultant contract for Wales. The basic salary for this post is £125,509 per annum.
Applicants should preferably either be on the Specialist Register or be a Specialist Registrar within three months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT at the time of interview.
Applicants must ensure they provide names and contact details of referees covering at least the last 3 years of their employment/training history in full. In addition, applicants who are currently or have most recently been employed as a substantive Consultant or as a Locum Consultant in post for more than 12 months must also provide the name of their Medical Director as an additional referee.
Responsibilities
* Full‑time role within a teaching centre consolidating all paediatric neurology services for South and Mid Wales at the single Cardiff site.
* Commitment to the paediatric neurology on‑call rota.
* Provide both inpatient care and an extensive outreach clinic service.
* Contribute to the design and delivery of the service.
Qualifications
* Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice
* Higher degree e.g. MD or PhD
* Valid APLS and NLS
Clinical Experience
* Able to demonstrate having achieved the competencies equivalent to the Highest Specialist Paediatric Training.
* Broad training and experience in general paediatric neurology and sub‑specialties
* Experience of working within a clinical network
* Experience working in NHS
* Fellowship or extra attachments to paediatric neurology sub‑specialties
Knowledge and Skills
* Evidence of effective team and multidisciplinary working
* Effective and demonstrable communication skills
Clinical Governance
* Evidence of participation in clinical audit / QI project and understanding role of these in improving medical practice
* Evidence of proactive engagement with appraisal and revalidation (or equivalent)
Research
* Evidence of active research interests
Teaching
* Willingness to teach all grades of professional multidisciplinary staff
Management
* Evidence of effective leadership skills
