We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Cardiff to assist with the appointment of an Income Officer, on a 9-month contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.
Rate of Pay: £13.17 - £16.72 per hour
Hours per week: 18.5
Summary:
To deliver an effective and efficient income management service, ensuring the prompt collection of rental income and other charges owed to the Council. The postholder will support the prevention and management of rent arrears, working with tenants and residents to promote financial inclusion, sustain tenancies, and maximise income to the Council.
Responsibilities:
* Manage rent accounts to ensure timely collection of rent and service charges.
* Take early and proactive action to prevent arrears, working with tenants to agree affordable repayment arrangements.
* Provide advice and support on welfare benefits, income maximisation, and debt management.
* Liaise with tenants, support services, Housing Officers, and external agencies to resolve income-related issues.
* Prepare and present cases for legal action, including possession proceedings, when necessary.
Qualifications:
* Good standard of education (e.g., GCSEs or equivalent).
Requirements:
* Previous experience in income management, rent collection, or a similar financial/housing role.
* Knowledge of welfare benefits and debt management processes.
* Strong negotiation and communication skills with the ability to deal effectively with customers in challenging situations.
* Experience of working with vulnerable tenants and signposting to relevant support services.
* Ability to work independently, manage a caseload, and meet deadlines.
* Good IT skills, with experience using housing management or finance systems.
