Overview
Join to apply for the Veterinary Surgeon role at RSPCA. This is a full-time, 12-month contract based at Manchester Animal Hospital and surrounding areas.
Responsibilities
* Oversee the rehabilitation of injured/ill strays and victims of cruelty and neglect, and demonstrate competence across veterinary disciplines, including neutering.
* Perform dentistry and shelter medicine; work on sole-charge cases; participate in off-site work around once a week for shelter medicine with local branches and centres.
* Implement RSPCA policies regarding the re-homability of animals, including case-by-case decision making.
* Provide welfare support work for the RSPCA Inspectorate.
* Maintain membership of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons; interest or experience in shelter medicine; a pragmatic welfare-oriented approach.
* Handle dogs, cats, small furries and possibly birds and wildlife initial triage; strong time management and autonomous decision-making skills.
* Explain complex clinical and welfare decisions clearly and compassionately to non-clinical staff, including Animal Center teams and the Inspectorate.
Essential Requirements
* Driver's license is essential due to travel across the region.
* Successful candidates may need to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
* Applicants must have the legal right to work in the UK; visa sponsorship is not available.
* 3+ years of previous clinical experience; RCVS membership; ability to work autonomously; excellent time management and communication skills.
