Start and finish times: Monday to Thursday – 07:00 - 16:45
Role Purpose: To ensure the dimensional conformance of aerospace components using advanced metrology equipment and Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs). This role is responsible for creating, validating, and maintaining CMM programs, performing in-process and final inspections, and supporting continuous improvement activities aligned with SQCDP (Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery, People) performance requirements. The CMM Programmer / Quality Inspector plays a key role in maintaining compliance with AS9100, customer specifications, and internal quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Safety
o Adhere to all site safety policies and safe working procedures.
o Ensure safe operation of measurement equipment and handling of components.
o Identify and report unsafe conditions, equipment faults, or hazards.
o Support 6S workplace standards within the quality inspection and CMM areas.
* Quality
o Program and operate CMM machines using PC‑DMIS.
o Create accurate, repeatable, and efficient measurement routines.
o Conduct in-process, first-off, and final inspections using CMM, height gauges, micrometres, and other metrology tools.
o Generate inspection reports.
o Maintain calibration and proper handling of inspection equipment.
o Investigate non-conformances, support root cause analysis, and contribute to corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
o Maintain fully traceable inspection records in accordance with AS9100 / ISO9001.
* Cost
o Reduce rework and scrap through accurate measurement and timely feedback to production.
o Optimise CMM programs to reduce inspection cycle times while maintaining accuracy.
o Support waste-reduction activities, including identifying variation and inefficiencies.
o Ensure tools and gauges are used and maintained responsibly to avoid damage or loss.
* Delivery
o Provide timely inspection support to maintain production flow and customer delivery schedules.
o Prioritise inspection workload based on SQCDP targets and production demands.
o Work closely with manufacturing and engineering teams to resolve quality issues quickly.
o Ensure all CMM programs are correctly stored, version‑controlled, and accessible to support uninterrupted operations.
* People
o Support training and development of operators in basic metrology and quality awareness.
o Communicate inspection outcomes and quality concerns clearly and constructively.
o Promote a positive culture of right‑first‑time and continuous improvement.
Role Requirements
* Essential
o Proven experience in CMM programming (PC‑DMIS or equivalent).
o Strong understanding of engineering drawings.
o Experience in aerospace, precision engineering, or similar high‑accuracy manufacturing environment.
o Ability to use a broad range of inspection tools.
o Knowledge of AS9100 / ISO9001 quality systems.
* Desirable
o Experience with MSA (Measurement System Analysis).
o Experience producing data to support AS9102 FAIRs.
o Apprenticeship or NVQ in engineering or metrology.
