The Education Welfare Service is seeking to recruit an Education Welfare Officer to meet the ongoing demands of the service.
We are looking for a committed and skilled professional with the ability and personal qualities to build positive, supportive relationships with schools, pupils and their families. You will be confident in representing the service and working collaboratively with a range of partners.
Relevant qualifications and previous experience of working with children and families in a multi‑agency setting are essential, along with the ability to manage sensitive and complex issues. A sound understanding of the role and responsibilities of the Education Welfare Service, as outlined in the job description, is also required.
The service fulfils the Local Authority's statutory duty to ensure that all children of compulsory school age receive a suitable and efficient education, whether at school or otherwise. This includes taking enforcement action in cases of irregular school attendance where necessary. The service also carries out the local authority's statutory responsibilities in relation to children missing education, elective home education, the employment of children, and the licensing of children who participate in entertainment performances.
