We are hiring an Early Years SEN Support to provide dedicated 1:1 support to a child in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) with identified special educational needs. The role involves implementing tailored learning strategies, supporting the child's development, and ensuring their inclusion within the setting, in line with the SEN support plan and EHCP.
This position is for 9 hours a week over 2 days, 1.45pm - 5.45pm. Tuesday and Wednesdays.
This is a fixed term contract from join date - 31st March 2026, this will be reviewed each term.
Essential Skills, Qualities and Qualifications:
.Experience supporting children with SEN (e.g. ASD, speech and language delay, global developmental delay). This is essential.
. A qualification in this field is desirable.
.Patience, empathy, and a nurturing approach.
.Ability to follow guidance from professionals and implement intervention strategies.
· Completion of a recognised Childcare qualification to a minimum of Level 3 would be preferrable
· A positive approach to gaining further training.
· Strong understanding of the importance of safeguarding, health and safety and food hygiene in the workplace, and must be willing to attend training courses in this area.
· An up to date Paediatric First Aid course, or willingness to attend such course.
· Previous experience of caring for or working with children aged 2-5 years in a paid or voluntary capacity.
· An understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage.
· A commitment to the provision of high-quality childcare.
· A positive approach to learning and gaining new skills through teamwork and on-going training opportunities.
· Good written and verbal skills for observations and planning for key children, and excellent communication skills with children, team members and parents and carers.
· Good organisational, record keeping and planning skills.
· A positive approach to inclusive practice with children and other team members.
· Enthusiasm for working with young children.
· Flexibility; from time to time you may be required to attend team meetings, open days or parent's evenings that are held out of normal working hours
Responsibilities include:
* Provide consistent 1:1 support to a named child with SEN, in line with the agreed support plan and guidance from SENCO and other professionals.
* Assist in the implementation of individualised education, behaviour, and care plans.
* Support the child's access to learning activities, promoting engagement and progress across the EYFS curriculum.
* Foster the child's social, emotional, and personal development through appropriate strategies and interventions.
* Liaise effectively with the SENCO, external professionals (e.g. speech and language therapists), and the child's parents/carers.
* Monitor and record progress, behaviour, and wellbeing, contributing to regular reviews and reports.
* Promote a safe and inclusive environment, ensuring the child's health, hygiene, and safeguarding needs are met.
* Adapt activities, routines, and materials to suit the child's individual needs and learning style.
* Encourage independence while offering appropriate levels of support.
* Assist with transitions (e.g. between activities, or between home and school).
* Support with any physical or personal care needs, if required (e.g. toileting, feeding, mobility).
