Responsibilities

* Lead the Economic Crime Unit (ECU), part of the National Environmental Crime Unit (NECU), and manage a specialist team dedicated to removing the financial benefit from criminals.
* Act as the strategic lead for managing financial investigations to fulfil obligations under the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA).
* Provide strong leadership and development for your team, including two Team Leaders (Asset Denial Team and Money Laundering Investigation Team) and a Senior Financial Intelligence Officer; manage performance and work delivery.
* Collaborate with internal teams (Investigatory Teams, Intelligence & Partnerships, Legal) and external partners (Police, National Crime Agency, HMRC) and influence at a senior level to ensure EA priorities are recognised by enforcement agencies.
* Support the wider organisation in continually improving how we work and increasing understanding of POCA; share lessons learnt and input into changes to technical documentation; advise other enforcement officers across the country.
* Lead the ECU teams in a dispersal of Financial Investigators, Financial Intelligence Officers and Crime Analysts within a nationally dispersed structure; respond to incidents and participate in incident response planning and business continuity where required.
* Ensure hybrid working arrangements are clear, with travel across the country for meetings and operational duties as needed.


Team and Environment

The Economic Crime Unit comprises two teams – Asset Denial Team and Money Laundering Investigations Team – with roles including Financial Investigators, Financial Intelligence Officers and Crime Analysts. The unit deals with serious and complex criminality involving organised crime networks.


Experience/skills Required

* Exceptional leadership skills, ideally with experience in leading a dispersed team, plus a good understanding of financial investigations and the Proceeds of Crime Act.
* Experience in:
* Working in the law enforcement sector and understanding the National Intelligence Model
* Communicating effectively including delivering feedback, managing performance and building relationships with external stakeholders
* Working under pressure and prioritising a varied workload
* Identifying areas for improvement and leading changes to working practices
* Developing and enhancing the capability of a team and its individuals


Contact and additional information

This is a hybrid working role and you’ll work flexibly from home and your nearest office. There will be a requirement for travel across the country for meetings and operational duties. Incident response is a central part of what we do; you’ll be required to have an incident role and be available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support. May attract an additional payment. Training and workplace adjustments will be available to support you.
