Overview
We are looking for an experienced and multi-skilled Production Journalist to join our broadcast and digital news team at ITV Cymru Wales. The successful candidate will be a self-motivated journalist with a passion for production and teamworking in news. You will have current contacts across communities, the ability to bring in ideas and a clear understanding of how to get them to air. The role is based in Cardiff, working on television and digital news production, from producing early, late and weekend bulletins and planning stories to creating online content that engages our digital audience. You will have outstanding written and verbal communications skills, the ability to demonstrate good working relationships with colleagues and external contacts, and excellent editorial judgement with a strong understanding of media law and Ofcom guidelines.

Responsibilities
* Produce high quality, compliant bulletins across all output (breakfast, lunch, late and weekends) in a live gallery, giving clear timing instructions to presenters and scripting amendments during broadcast.
* Write stories and scripts that are accurate, compliant and engaging.
* Edit pictures using the provided editing software and create accurate graphics for bulletins, programmes and packages using the template-based graphics system.
* Curate ITV’s Digital offering on the website or ITVX as required.
* Assist the news desk or planning team with research, planning and newsgathering.
* Generate original and creative ideas contributing to the news agenda on-screen and online; research story ideas thoroughly for on-air and online output.
* Develop and maintain a wide range of relevant contacts; meet online and on-air deadlines and react quickly to breaking stories, liaising regularly with the news desk.
* Exercise excellent editorial judgement, maintaining professional journalistic standards and adhering to ITV’s Legal & Compliance, ITV Trust and OFCOM guidelines.
* Be proactive about diversity, equity and inclusion to ensure output reflects new stories across the audience spectrum; work weekends and variable hours as required.
* Travel to district offices or other news operations and participate in relevant forums, development sessions and off-site meetings as part of the role.
Qualifications
* Fully qualified NCTJ, BJTC or equivalent experience.
* Working knowledge of Ofcom code, media law and compliance.
* Evidence of researching and developing original ideas; evidence of a creative approach to storytelling, treatments and production for on-air and online.
* Knowledge and understanding of digital platforms and how to reach new audiences online.
* Excellent organisational skills and the ability to plan multiple stories while prioritising tasks.
* Strong writing skills for TV and digital (accurate spelling and grammar essential).
* Excellent news judgement with comprehensive knowledge of and interest in national and regional news.
* Strong knowledge of the patch, its cultural heritage and the types of stories that engage our audiences.
* Proven track record of producing excellent content to deadline and under pressure.
* Confident and clear communication skills, ability to source contributors and put them at ease to get the best story possible.
* Ability to work well in a team environment, use initiative, be self-motivated and quick-thinking.
* Ability to remain calm and resilient in a busy work environment; willingness to learn new skills and share them with the team.
* Ability to work to deadlines and make strong, decisive decisions under pressure.
* Experience bringing in stories from underrepresented communities and parts of the patch.
* Positive attitude, resilience, and adaptability to a changing news agenda; excellent attention to detail; social media/digital awareness.
* Enthusiasm to embrace further changes in technology and workflow; comfort with the full range of digital newsroom technology.
* Clear understanding of and commitment to DEI and Health & Safety policies.
