Job Title: Services Engineer
Location: Oldham
Reports to: Engineering Manager
Salary: £34,000 £42,286 (depending on BOAS qualification)
Hours: Day shift Monday to Thursday 7:30am 4:00pm, Friday 7:30am 3:00pm
Holidays: 32 days (including bank holidays, excluding Christmas Day)
Role Purpose To ensure the smooth running, maintenance, and compliance of all plant and services equipment, including steam boilers, compressed air, water systems, lifts, and waste/effluent systems. The Services Engineer will support production by delivering preventative maintenance, responding to breakdowns quickly, and ensuring all work meets health, safety, and compliance standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Carry out planned and reactive maintenance on services equipment:
* Gas boilers, steam autoclaves, and steam lines
* Compressed air and domestic water systems
* Cooling towers, effluent plants, hydraulic and traction lifts
* Respond quickly to breakdowns, ensuring minimal downtime.
* Support commissioning and handover of new equipment.
* Maintain accurate engineering records, PPM sheets, and reports.
* Work closely with production teams to provide technical support and regular updates.
* Ensure compliance with all legislation, including Health & Safety, LOLER, Pressure Systems, and Legionella (L8).
* Maintain high standards of housekeeping and hygiene in line with food safety requirements.
Skills & Experience Required
o Time-served engineer with experience in a factory services or utilities environment.
o Strong mechanical bias with good electrical knowledge (NVQ Level 2 or 18th Edition desirable).
o Fault finding and testing skills across a range of systems.
o BOAS training or experience with steam boilers (desirable).
o Knowledge of boiler water treatment and water softening systems.
o Experience with compressed air systems, plumbing, and pipe fitting.
o Experience working with hydraulic or traction lifts (desirable).
o Good communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team
